To answer the title, yes they are. Blog props (more so props for the photography side of blogging) are one of my favourite things to go out and buy because you can get almost anything and somehow work it in a flatlay. I have a tin full of props and I really want to expand my collection so in this post you’ll find out where I get my blog props from and their importance.
Today’s post is sponsored by a website called Confetti which is your go to place for all things weddings, to have a nosey on their website and wedding venues near you, click here. You can also find on this website wedding accessories which are perfect for blog props too! Bare with me here, you might be thinking a wedding website isn’t going to supply anything to do with blogging. Well you’re wrong! They sell little confetti packets which are amazing to just place in empty spaces of photos, table top decorations like vases and cute little baskets. They also do a range of personalised stationery too so whilst you could be shopping for your wedding, you could also be shopping for potential blog props! All items are really dainty and reasonably priced too!
Hobbycraft is a goldmine for simple blog props like fake flowers, scrabble letters and any kind of random little bits. I’ve got some cute little sunflowers from there and recently picked up some flat wooden pumpkins ready for halloween! A lot of the time you’ll go in with no intention of getting anything specific but come out with a basket full of things which work amazingly in blog pictures. Their crafty bits are super cheap too which is great if you’re on a budget. Something I recently discovered was shredded paper which was about £1. I’ve been experimenting with it photos recently and find that it looks so pretty.
Primark is the go to place for cheap homeware that looks pretty. I have a rose gold bathroom basket from there which looks really pretty in blog photos and i’ve heard their fairy-lights are good too! I also picked up a little chalkboard from there and I have my eye on a tabletop lamp but all of these things are usually under £10 and multipurpose to actually use as homeware and for blog props.
Candles work really well in blog pictures if you’re after a cosy type of vibe from the photo, essentially it will give off a warm orange tone to the image. They work nicely in the background of images when your depth of field is shallow. If you don’t know what that means, think blurry background. You can easily pick up candles from Poundland, B&M, Homesense or treat yourself to a Yankee Candle… Or do what I did and use the candles I have already around my house!
Don’t forget before you go out and buy props check what you have in your house. Does your mom have any fake flowers? Why not use your current makeup products or brushes in pictures? You’ll be surprised at how much stuff you already have that can be used in blog pictures, it’s all about practice and seeing what works.
What are your favourite blog props and where do you buy them from?
