Edinburgh Mini-Break

In the 2 and half years me and my boyfriend have been away together, we’ve never been on a holiday or stayed overnight somewhere. Our first city we wanted to take a trip to for a mini-break had to be Edinburgh for the zoo. We’ve been to London zoo and Chester zoo so the next rightful zoo had to be Edinburgh- for the Pandas and Koala bears.

We went on Tuesday 7th August from Birmingham New Street and train prices are extreme, I think it was over £100- we booked through a website called train-splitter which saved us £20.

In terms of our hotel, we stayed in Hub by Premier inn on rose street and it was such a cute little hotel. The room design is smaller than usual hotel rooms but when you’re only staying a night its convenient. On the bed there were panels to control the lights and room temperatures and do not disturb buttons as well as having free water on arrival and free new release movies on the TV. I was really impressed with how modern the hotel was and they also have these ‘hub’ hotels in London.

The main attraction that we visited was the zoo, a £4 bus trip from Princes street. We did want to go to the castle but by the time we’d arrived on the Tuesday we were so tired and on the Wednesday we pretty much spent all day at the zoo. The zoo was about £20 each to enter and was a lot of uphill walking with enclosures quite spread out. We were so sad because the panda indoor viewing area was closed and they didn’t venture outside! But we got to see the koala’s which was amazing and the penguin parade where they walk around outside of their cage! Unlike other zoos, the animals cages were really big and it surprisingly wasn’t too busy which was nice.

The trip was really lovely but I do regret not taking many photos! We were going to go to the castle as well but it was just too tiring! Have you ever been to Edinburgh?

Sounds like you had a lovely time! My boyfriend and I have been together almost 3 years and only ever had one couples weekend away, and it didn’t involve the zoo! (Those penguins though!)

I adore the headboard in your hotel room, it’s such a fantastic way to bring the city into the hotel!! And if you love penguins and find yourself in Calgary, certainly visit the zoo- they have the most spectacular penguin habitat!! They also take the Emperor penguins on walks throughout the zoo in the winter 🙂

I went to Edinburgh last Autumn and I completely fell in love. Looks so different during the summer, would love to visit Edinburgh zoo, it was right next to our hotel when we went but it was far too cold to be outside for longer than 5 minutes. I would recommend visiting nearing Christmas, all the Christmas lights around the city centre and markets really get you in the spirit

It’s great that you and your boyfriend took your first overnight trip together! That was about the same time when me and my boyfriend had our first overnight trip as well! Edinburgh looks like a gorgeous town. Love the animals out there! Glad you enjoyed your time out there :).
